Siegrun Appelt created an artistic installation as part of the Vienna Biennale for Change 2021, which was coordinated by Hubert Klumpner, a curator of the Biennale, and supported by the Daylight Academy. The question for the installation was whether a balance can be found between the preservation of nature and its use by man – on the one hand as the basis of life and on the other as the object of his will to create. An essential part of the installation were eight voice recordings in German, which were meant to be perceived by the visitor as whispered children’s voices. Each voice dealt with central questions of climate care and daylight and outlined possible solutions. The content of the texts was based on interviews conducted by Siegrun Appelt and Constanze Müller with scientists and experts from various disciplines such as ecology, environmental sciences, biology, architecture and urban planning, and steered and designed by DLA members. In this artistic work, science and art were strongly interwoven and no longer opposites.
The art installation was on display at the Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in Vienna from 28 May to 3 October 2021.
