An art-science project from the University of Regensburg, Germany
Sunlight is a fundamental condition for life on earth and simultaneously an unlimited resource for mankind. Especially in the 21st century, when the ecological future of the earth is at risk, the importance of sunlight is growing as a promising regenerative source of energy. In artificial photosynthesis, humans have found a way to harness this energy source. As part of the Daylight Academy project “Materials responding to daylight”, works of art have been created that contribute to the public dialogue on this topic. Perspectives from science, art, economy, society and politics are made visible in these works and stimulate each other. In this way, differences and potential similarities may emerge between the way scientific knowledge develops in research or technology and the creative process leading to art. This may generate a better mutual openness and understanding of scientists and artists.
