The Daylight and green cities project, led by Daylight Academy members Prof. Christoph Kueffer, Dr. Bruno Bueno and Dr. Carlo Volf, has published a new paper in the Journal of Urban Management. Titled: “Why daylight should be a priority for urban planning,” the article argues that daylight in cities should be treated as a limiting resource that needs to be planned and managed carefully, much like water or energy. It suggests several elements for a policy framework that would be aimed at optimizing urban daylight, including how to determine daylight needs, how to determine the maximum viable urban density, and policy options for built and unbuilt areas.

No fewer than 11 Daylight Academy members took part in the publication:

Prof. Jasmin Joshi, Ass. Prof. Gabriele Manoli and Dr. Kevin Vega are also among the list of authors.

The “Daylight and green cities” project builds on the unique interdisciplinary nature of the Daylight Academy to establish a framework that enables the design of urban areas to maximize the benefits of daylight, as well as the design of green solutions for buildings based on daylight.
