Daylight and myopia relationship explored in DLA project’s new article

Members of the DLA project group “Can daylight protect children from myopia?” have written a new article exploring the relationship between myopia and daylight.

Titled: Myopia and daylight—A combination of factors, the paper was published in the journal Frontiers in Medicine.

First examining how our understanding of the causes of myopia has developed over the past 160 years, the article then hypothesises that several mechanisms may contribute to the onset of myopia. The ill-effects of prolonged close work, a bad posture, and stress may be combining. They are then made worse by low light levels indoors and limited time spent outdoors in daylight.

Co-led by Dr Richard Hobday and Dr Marielle Aarts, the DLA project brought together a multidisciplinary team of experts interested in finding out how daylight can protect children from myopia as they go through their school years.
