Daylight is an essential source of illumination for humans. We spend up to 90% of our time indoors and part of these indoor spaces are inadequately supplied with daylight. Daylight supply means more than just good vision: the influence of daylight on general well-being is being perceived more and more consciously. A good daylight supply can have a positive effect on mood, performance and even health. Daylight also plays a key role in keeping energy consumption for electrical lighting low.
The new European standard EN 17037 “Daylight of Buildings” provides for the first time recommendations for daylight supply and daylight quality applicable throughout Europe. Germany will shortly adopt it as DIN EN 17037 “Tageslicht in Gebäuden”.
