Nominations for The Daylight Award 2026 now open
Nominations for the 2026 edition of The Daylight Award have officially opened. The Daylight Academy, which is presenting the Award for the first time, invites you to nominate distinguished candidates until 15 September, 2025.
By celebrating both scientific research and architectural practice, The Daylight Award strives to raise an integrated understanding of daylight in human life and the wider ecosystem, and to strengthen its positive impact.
The Award is composed of two categories:
- The Daylight Award for Research
Awarded to individuals or smaller groups of researchers or scientists, who have accomplished internationally recognized outstanding and forward-looking contributions in any relevant field of daylight research. The Award acknowledges highly original and influential advances in the areas of natural, human and social sciences. A special emphasis is on the impact of daylight on human health, nature and innovation in its technological use for any solution leading to a more healthy and sustainable society.
- The Daylight Award for Architecture
Awarded to a single architect or a group of practitioners, who have created distinguished architecture, urban environments or other environmental designs that showcase an outstanding, ground breaking and experientially meaningful use of daylight. The Award also includes scholarly and artistic studies in daylight. Special emphasis is placed on projects that consider the overall quality of life, the impact of daylight on human health, performance, mental and physical wellbeing, as well as on its value for culture and society.
Each laureate, whether an individual or a team, receives a prize of €100,000.
The jury will announce the 2026 laureates in May 2026.
Who can nominate:
Members of the Daylight Academy community, organisations, architects, researchers, and other professionals are encouraged to nominate distinguished candidates for their outstanding contributions to daylight research and daylight in architecture. Self-nominations are not accepted.
