The Daylight Award will now be presented by the Daylight Academy

The Daylight Academy (DLA) is delighted to announce that, from January 2025, it will be presenting The Daylight Award.

The Daylight Award is a biennial award which honours and supports daylight research and daylight in architecture. It acknowledges and encourages scientific knowledge and practical application of daylight, which interlink disciplines that are usually addressed in separated, monocultural spheres, professional circles or practices. By bridging scientific research and architecture, the Award strives to raise a holistic understanding of daylight and increase its positive impact on life.

The Daylight Award, in its current form, was established by the philanthropic foundations Villum Fonden, VELUX FONDEN and Velux Stiftung, all three created by Villum Kann Rasmussen.

The 2024 laureates announced on the UNESCO International Day of Light, 16 May 2024, were Alberto Campo Baeza for his architecture, and Till Roenneberg for his research. To learn more about previous laureates, some of whom are members of the Daylight Academy, please follow this link.

As an international organisation that promotes interdisciplinary cooperation among scientists, architects and other professionals involved in daylight research or with a strong interest in daylight related topics, the Daylight Academy is honoured to now present the award.

Just as in previous editions of the award, the nominations will be reviewed by a select jury of experts with two of the nominees ultimately being chosen as laureates by the jury, in the categories Daylight Research and Daylight in Architecture. Newly, the role of the DLA Steering Committee will be to elect the new jury members and to further develop the procedure of the award.

The announcement of laureates and the associated award ceremony is scheduled to take place in May 2026.
