Interdisciplinary Summer School “Measuring Light and Illumination” (28 July – 3 August 2024)
Description
Exposure to light has major effects on human physiology and behaviour. As laboratory studies work are designed to understand which mechanisms underlie the physiological effects of light, we also have an intuitive understanding – and appreciation – of light. Light, and in particular daylight, is the subject interdisciplinary research, which will be explored in this summer school, suited for students and practitioners from a variety of disciplines – neuroscience, medicine, environmental science, lighting design, architecture and art.
Topics will include:
- Measurement of light, spectrum and colour using a variety of cutting-edge techniques
- Quantification of human responses to light, including on visual (colour vision) and non-visual physiology (neuroendocrine and circadian physiology, sleep)
This residential summer school combines lectures, practical workshops, an excursion and a student-led research project. For information and results of prior editions, feel free to read our conference proceedings here.
Please note: The summer school starts the morning of Monday, 29 July 2024. Participants need to plan to arrive on the evening of Sunday, 28 July 2024 by 6 pm.
Location and accommodation
The Summer School will take place in Chexbres, Switzerland, overlooking Lake Geneva. Room and board in at Ferienhaus Victoria will be provided at no cost. Please note that accommodation is simple, and rooms may be shared between participants. Chexbres can be reached easily via train from Geneva and other European destinations. Participants must arrange their own travel and no logistical support will be offered from the Daylight Academy or Organising Committee.
Application
The summer school is open to students at all levels, researchers and practitioners from all disciplines interested in measuring light and illumination.
